We have provided numerous Labrador puppies for use as assistance dogs Australia, and which have gone to various Australian destinations (we do not export).
Some of our puppies have been used for:
- children with Autism;
- children with Aspergers;
- adults with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD);
- general assistance; and
- general therapy.
A short but relevant article is available online about Autism service dogs.
If you are considering or are interested in learning about training your own dog to be a service dog, then there is a relevant article here.
Below is a Youtube video about assistance dogs being used for children with Autism:
Our Labrador puppies are also well socialized and conditioned for being accustomed to contact and exposure to a range of people, situations, power tools, noises, etc., etc. This is to try and minimize the effects of transition to their new families and homes, and to also help with them adequately coping or adjusting to various situations etc.
Parents of puppies are screened for various conditions, including hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), and exercise induced collapse (EIC). We have also imported puppy parents from overseas, to increase the genetic pool from which we are breeding puppies, and to help optimize the quality etc. of the puppies being bred. This is to lessen the effects of ‘inbreeding depression’ while maintaining purebred Labrador puppies.
